Backlash After Keri Hilson Jokes: Amy Winehouse Is Alive & Partying With Me!!!

Submitted by on August 1, 2011 – 12:01 pm5 Comments

In a perfect world Keri Hilson would have known better but instead the singer’s tasteless tweets are landing her in hot water.

Just days after Amy Winehouse was found dead at 27 in her London flat, Keri decided to pay the late singer a tribute. Not by writing a song or sending condolences to the family, or even donating some pretty girl cash to Amy’s favorite charity. Nope, Keri decided to go to a club and take a photo with a tipsy “Amy Winehouse” look-a-like and joke that Amy had come back to life just in time to bar hop with Miss Keri Baby…What?!

In what should be considered just straight stupid, Keri tweeted the above photo with the caption, “Amy Winehouse resurrected to party w/ me!!! (seriously, uncanny resemblance).”

Quickly re-tweeted by hundreds of followers, Amy fans were not laughing and within minutes they went in on Keri, HARD:

“Tacky and classless! Have some respect for the dead, heffa!”

“You are a stupid b*tch. No respect for the dead, just sad.”

“…Fail a** hoe. What a dumb bitch you f**king IDIOT. That’s why you’ll NEVER be great UGLY.”

“That ain’t funny scary hilson, go back to walmart.”

“Not cool not cool at all -__- she just lost her life & u over here makin jokes? #gurlbye”

“Is it supposed to be funny? not laughing…”

“Too f**king soon.”

Our sentiments exactly. The R&B songster is clearly no comedian and her “twit-pic tribute” was just too soon. Responding to the backlash, Keri tried to sing a different tune and tweeted the below:

Although her apology seemed sincere, enraged fans continue to roast “The Way You Love Me,” singer with loads of hateful tweets:

Amy was laid to rest in a private ceremony on July 26th, but the war of words on Keri shows no signs of being deaded. What are your thoughts? Should Keri be forgiven for her insensitivity? Maybe there’s some sort of Twitter Rehab we can force her into where she learns how to Tweet responsibly.

Let’s just hope this girl says, yes, yes, yes.

Despite the comment being a bit distasteful, I think people are being a bit harsh with the comments. To now go after someone’s talent or character is not called for. They had to go in on Keri like that? Really?

  • Lisa says:

Ok…maybe it was a little bit insensitive, but I get it. People were going in, like she was talking about their mommas! Even after she explained herself and apologized they were still going. Really?

Only one person was decent enough to say that the joke was too soon, but “regular” people were already making jokes the day they found out she died.

For those “ultimate Winehouse fans” how come your comments and love for her didn’t make her think twice about continuing on the downward spiral?

I’m not a major fan of Keri Hilson, but I feel the comments were a bit harsh.

  • Daniel says:

this was over done a bit? She joked around but it was sort of a tribute to amy. These comments are harsh and she has way more talent than them.

  • Cel_B says:

Ok. I dont see where her joke was so offensive, she was just kidding around and that pic really does look like Amy Winehouse, people just need to get a life and stop freaking over Amy, Keri is still alive and her music has taste, so psssh….

  • FaithSquared says:

I think Keri Hilson chose a bad time to joke around because death is not anything to laugh or joke about. I admit the lady she took a picture with did look almost like Amy winehouse. I also thought the comments people wrote were so immature, but also what Keri did was immature. I understand that she was joking but she just chose the wrong thing to joke about at the wrong time.
