Congressman Calls President Obama A “Tar Baby”
Hmm. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), we don’t believe you, you need more people.
According to CNN, Lamborn had some choice words last week during the political debate over the debt ceiling:
Even if some people say, well the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that, they will hold the President responsible,” said Lamborn said Friday during an interview on a Denver radio station. “Now I don’t want to even have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get, you get it, you know… you are stuck and you are part of the problem now and you can’t get away.”
The term “tar baby” is a reference to 19th-century Uncle Remus stories about Br’er Rabbit but has taken on a negative connotation towards African-Americans.
Lamborn spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen said the comments were a misunderstanding and he apologizes. “Congressman Lamborn regrets any misunderstanding. He simply meant to refer to a sticky situation or quagmire,” she said. Mortensen also said Lamborn has sent an apology letter to President Obama.
The White House has not given any comment on Rep. Lamborn’s remarks.
The “Tar Baby” comments are most likely comments this Congressman uses frequently with his constitents that he forgot who his audience was – The Press. As a Black Man raised outside of Ruston, LA in Jackson Parish, LA, it does not suprise me! This whole Conserative conversation about “Taking Our Country Back”, Tea Party” are code words for the “Klu-Klux-Klan”. I grew up in the Klux-Klux-Klan area and know personally of 2 young black men who were killed because there were rumors they they were messing with White girls within a 15 miles of where I grew up. In one case, the family house was burned down and in the other case my cousin who lived with my family was beat to death after local white men came and picked up his father and took him for a ride. Neither case was ever investigated. My cousins boyfriend’s name was “Claudus Hines” and he was beat to death in in his own house in the 1960′s by a group of young white guys. Since it happened in the 1960′s, his death certificate is an available public records.
