Kim Kardashian Diagnosed With Skin Disease Psoriasis, Reaches Out To Fans Via Twitter For Help!
Kim Kardashian, 30, is known for her spotless, undeniable beauty, but a recent diagnosis has the reality starlet seeing spots and questioning the future of her fashion empire.
On last week’s episode of the hit series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim freaks after discovering a rash of red blotches on her legs and her sister Khloe jokes that she may have developed ringworm. After heading to the dermatologist, Kim was devastated to discover that she is suffering from psoriasis, a skin condition that affects 7.5 million Americans, as well as her mother Kris Jenner who was also diagnosed with psoriasis when she was 30-years-old.
“My career is doing ad campaigns and photo swimsuit photoshoots!” Kim confesses. “People don’t understand the pressure on me to look perfect. When I gain a pound, I’m in the tabloids.” Concerned and desperate for answers, Kim then asks her doctor, “I’m not going to get this on my face, am I?”
His response? The dermatologist suggests that Kim try and lead an “easier, slower-paced life,” but for the bride-to be, currently planning her wedding to Kris Humphries on August 20th,”That’s just not possible.”
According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, “Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that appears on the skin. It occurs when the immune system sends out faulty signals that speed up the growth cycle of skin cells. Psoriasis is not contagious. The most common form, plaque psoriasis, appears as raised, red patches or lesions covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells, called scale. Psoriasis can occur on any part of the body and is associated with other serious health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and depression.”
After her initial shock and tears, Kim is coping and looking towards the future. After reaching out to fans for help via Twitter and asking if “anyone knows any remedies for psoriasis,” Kim is hopeful of finding something that will alleviate her symptoms.”OK I’m trying a new psoriasis cream all week,” Kim Tweeted just this past Monday. “I hope this works! I promise I will share the goods once I find something that really works!”
“Kim Kardashian is brave to come out when her stock and trade is being so beautiful, and I think she’s got a lot of self-confidence to do that,” said Catie Coman, director of communications for the National Psoriasis Foundation. “A lot of people with psoriasis cover up and feel a certain amount of shame and embarrassment, because the disease is so visible and people think it’s contagious,” she said. “They face discrimination in public. Everyone with moderate to severe psoriasis has a story about being kicked out of a pool or a salon.”
With Kim’s nuptials fast approaching, perhaps she can ask another recent famous bride about ways to deal with psoriasis on your big day. Turns out country singer LeAnn Rimes is also living with the disease and happily wed actor Eddie Cibrian back in April with beautifully clear skin.
Watch as Kim discovers she has psoriasis and learn how Leann Rimes stopped hiding and started living with her condition.
Do you think Kim’s psoriasis will ruin her career?
