You May Have To Wait Another Month For The Release Of Apple’s iPhone 5
For one, it keeps people talking about the company and keeps the anticipation high for new products. So when they actually do drop something, it’s an event. After all of the rumors surrounding products, people are eager to find out exactly what was true, what wasn’t, and what never had a chance of being included in a particular product.
Secondly, all of the rumors give us a chance to think about what we want in a new iPod, iPad, or iPhone. We get to speak our minds about what we wish was included and how the new products would look in a perfect worl. Those recommendations inevitably make it back to Apple, who seems to take customer concerns pretty seriously when it comes time to piece together a new product.
And lastly, it’s just fun to speculate over what’s going on at Apple and buy into all the hype that comes along with talking about rumors that come from your neighbor’s grandmother’s doctor’s stock broker’s cousin’s uncle who knows a guy who knows a guy that used to work with a guy who works security at a factory in China that is allegedly working on a new Apple product. Fun!
So, with that in mind, take this next piece of news with a grain of salt: You might have to wait for another month before you get your hands on the iPhone 5. Or, at least, what we think will be the iPhone 5.
A rumor started spreading recently about the supposed September release date for the iPhone 5. According to the rumor—which started over at All Things Digital—AT&T has blacked out employee vacations for the last two weeks of September, a sign that the iPhone 5 could be coming. But after checking with sources at AT&T, it was discovered that the iPhone 5 (again, assuming it actually exists) might not see the light of day until early or even late October. That would time it just right for the holiday season and allow Apple to continue to push the iPhone 4, which were actually up nine percent last quarter.
Of course, none of this is confirmed, and you really shouldn’t be surprised if another rumor pops up before the end of August saying that the iPhone 5′s release date is pushed back to November. As of right now, Apple hasn’t released any news about the next iPhone and they haven’t indicated whether or not one even exists. And they probably won’t do so, either—until at least September and maybe even later if the tradition of keeping their iPhone releases a mystery remains intact.
However, one thing seems to be true: Apple is planning something for the fall and, even if they won’t step up and admit it yet, it’s probably the iPhone 5. Just like the very first iPhone, the iPhone 2, the iPhone 3, and the iPhone 4, they’re going to be mum on the subject and keep things quiet until the very last minute before letting the cat out of the bag.
And, honestly? We’re not going to complain. Because even if the iPhone 5 doesn’t come out until October or November or even later, we’ll have plenty of fun keeping up with the rumors until then. It’s all part of being fans of all things Apple.
