Baseball Fans, You Need Derek Jeter’s Limited-Edition New York Yankees Cap In Your Life

I’m not a Yankees fan. I’m not a Derek Jeter fan. Therefore, a New Era fitted hat that pays homage to the Yankees and Derek Jeter sounds like the last thing you’d catch me in, right? Um, wrong. In fact, the brand-new limited-edition New York Yankees New Era fitted that pays homage to Derek Jeter’s 3000th hit is quite possibly the only cap that I need to have this year.

For starters, the Yankee cap is classic enough at this point that you don’t necessarily have to be a fan of the Bronx Bombers to wear it. If you’ve been a fan of hip-hop for more than a year, you already knew that, right? Especially after Jay-Z name-dropped it on his classic single, “Empire State of Mind” back in 2009. But that’s not the only reason this particular cap is a must-have for me right now.

Last month, Derek Jeter made Major League Baseball history by hitting his 3000th hit off David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays. In doing so, he became the first Yankee in the history of baseball to record 3000 hits, which is a pretty epic accomplishment when you consider all of the legendary players who have worn pinstripes. So New Era decided to pay him homage by designing a limited-edition cap devoted to celebrating the achievement.

It’s an honor that’s rarely bestowed upon professional athletes. In the past, they’ve added emblems and logos to hats to celebrate teams who’ve made the World Series and to commemorate special dates like 9/11. But they’ve rarely stopped everything they’re doing to design a special cap for a specific player. Which is exactly what they’ve done with DJ here.

That makes this cap not only unique—but also possibly valuable at some point. At 40 bucks a pop, the hat isn’t particularly cheap, but you can expect the limited supply of hats to run out quickly and to become a collector’s item at sometime in the not-so-distant future. That alone should make this hat intriguing to baseball fanatics and sports fans in general.

As I said, I’m not a Yankees fan or a Derek Jeter fan, so it’d seem like this fitted was aimed at everyone but me. But this cap represents a special moment in MLB history and, as a result, this is a special cap. So unless you’re hard up for 40 bucks—or just a diehard Red Sox fan—this is one fitted cap that you need in your collection right now. Get it here.
