Is Melanie C A Hypocrite For Criticizing Rihanna?
“People have to take some responsibility because we’ve got to a point where the over-sexualization of young children has gone too far.” So says Melanie C, 37, who recently went on a tirade against Rihanna in UK paper The Mirror.
“I think music is a big part of that. Women in music, very successful women, are extremely sexual and they have young fans. It is inappropriate. Rihanna has responsibility and although culture’s always changing, it’s changed too much. It needs to be dealt with. It’s reached saturation point, we owe it to our kids to protect them.”
Interestingly enough, Mel C was subjected to the same kind of criticism as part of female supergroup The Spice Girls. All members young ladies seen in skimpy outfits (to be fair, as “Sporty Spice” Mel C was the tomboy of the group) and were reported to be poor role models for their young fans. Nowadays the Spice Girls, in comparison to acts like Rihanna and her fellow chart-topping starlets, are indeed tame.
Mel finished off by saying, “I love Rihanna and I think she’s a f*cking brilliant artist, with great songs, a great record and she looks fantastic. But she’s not a mum. Maybe if she becomes one she’ll feel different. I hope so anyway.”
she’s right and madonna felt the same way. madonna said she regrets some of the provocative behavior she engaged in. I guess riri will have to explain her behavior to her children one day. It’s show business right? go figure.
of course she’s right, the spice girls in my opinion were some kinda of crazy girls but not oversexualized of their image, and even if they “were” at their time, it’s like childish games at this point, they were doin’ better music that most of artists of these days and used a lot of more clothes on…
