Brad Pitt Zombie Movie: New Pics & Disappointing News

Last week, these photos leaked from the set of World War Z, an adaptation of the novel of the same name, starring Brad Pitt (that’s him with the dark red hood):

The book claims to be a “report,” compiled from interviews with survivors of a global zombie outbreak and the resistance that follows. Without getting too nerdy on you, it is an amazing work of science fiction. It tells a gripping, blood-spattered story, all while using zombies as a metaphor to criticize everything from international politics to environmental destruction.

With its episodic chapters and lack of a central plot, it seemed like a tough book to adapt to the big screen. Still, I was excited and tried to grab any insight from these photos. But these images didn’t look like any part of the book that I remember.

Then the Internet gave me an answer: These scenes might not be from the book. Because the producers in their infinite wisdom have decided to throw out everything that made the book special and make a zombie movie just like every other zombie movie.

The official release from Paramount Studios gives a one-sentence synopsis of the upcoming film:

“The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

Because if you have Brad Pitt, why would you make him be a boring researcher who unravels a complex tragedy, when he can “traverse the world in a race against time” and probably shoot a lot of things?

I could freak out more, but the Internet is already doing a good job of that. And as a few have pointed out, this is just a single sentence written by some studio lackey before the movie is even done filming. The final product could be completely different . So like those brave souls who persevered in the face of the undead, we will hold on to hope.
