Hercules And Love Affair Present Blue Songs

Blue Songs is the second studio album by electro/house group Hercules and Love Affair. It was released over half a year ago in the UK and finally dropped Stateside yesterday, with bonus tracks and remixes to compensate. The album features guest appearances from Bloc Party‘s Kele Okereke (“Step Up”), includes significant vocal contributions from Kim Ann Foxman, Aerea Negrot and Shaun Wright and has Andy Butler at the helm once again.

The wider variety of vocalists mentioned on Blue Songs has an effect on the sound and cohesiveness of the album (not to mention it was recorded in Vienna, New York, San Francisco and Berlin) and moves the group away from the rich, disco-revival music they were lauded for on their 2008 self-titled debut. While the new remixes on this set are worth a listen, listeners unfamiliar with the project may be better off copping the first album for a more solid introduction to their vibe.

Listen to the trance-like “Painted Eyes” and 90s-sounding “My House” from Blue Songs:
