When the correct hues of black, red and green, meet on the same canvas, be it a vinyl cover, movie poster, or sneaker, it has the ability to personify A Tribe Called Quest. Not many color palettes have the ability to trigger artist identity except for maybe the good old stars and stripes with the boss, Bruce Springsteen. Beginning with The Low End Theory and traversing way back to 1991, the Tribe has aligned their album art with the aforementioned color schematic, and it now graces the Nike SB Blazer silhouette. The blazer sports a black textured side panel with a bright red Nike swoosh overlay which matches up with the lining. Not to be forgotten, the bright green comes by way of the laces and accent color on the tongue. If you’re too young to remember what The Low End Theory album art looked like, give yourself a little hip-hop homework and line up the dots for yourself. If you haven’t seen the Michael Rapaport directed Beats, Rhymes, and Life Tribe Called Quest Documentary, retrieve your wallet from El Segundo, scoop the kicks, and watch the crowd’s necks buckle with envy has you strut in the theater with these puppies on your feet.
