Is Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark Really Scary?
Judging by the looks of things, I’d say probably not. The movie, a remake of the 1973 made-for-television film by the same name, looks quite cliche at first glance. There’s a new family moving into a house that’s being renovated. The child in this family has supernatural experiences and tries to convince her parents that the house is haunted while dealing with run-ins with evil spirits who want to take her away.
Didn’t we see something like this already this year?
We did, and it was called Insidious. This movie looks and sounds like it will probably be Insidious with Katie Holmes in it and just like Usher, her career hasn’t been the same since her wedding day.
I wouldn’t look for anything more than the usual scares (and false scares) and screams from this film. Basically, if you’re taking a girl to see it and you want her to grab you and hold onto you, you should be pretty good.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark will be released to theaters August 26.
