While rumors of Beyoncé and Jay-Z‘s first baby have been circulating the blogosphere for months, the reveal of Beyoncé’s baby bump during the VMAs set a Twitter world record. At the end of Beyoncé’s performance, she pulled her jacket back to reveal a slight but evident protrusion which the proud mom to be rubbed lovingly. Not only was this a heart-warming moment in which the camera shifted from Beyoncé to a giddy Jay-Z back to Beyoncé again, but it was a Twitter world record. Fans hit the social networking platform to tweet a record 8,868 times per second about Beyoncé’s baby. While this is an extreme feat in and of itself, one must consider recent events that B’s baby was up against, including the Japanese New Year, and news of Osama bin Laden‘s death.
