Best Coast + Drew Barrymore = Video Magic For “Our Deal”

Recognizable for their fuzzy, low-fidelity sound in the vein of surf rock, Best Coast, a Los Angeles-based indie band, continue to ride the waves of their 2010 debut album Crazy For You, which Pitchfork ranked #39 on their Top 5 Albums Of 2010 list. “Our Deal” is the single now getting the most attention, thanks to a much-hyped video directed by none other than Drew Barrymore.

Like a modern day West Side Story (set in the same area as scenes from Grease) the video shows the beautiful climax and ultimate demise of two star-crossed lovers from rival Los Angeles gangs, played by cool kid actors Tyler Posey (who plays the lead role in MTV’s Teen Wolf, but will always be Jennifer Lopez‘s son Ty in Maid In Manhattan to me) and Chloe Moretz (“Hit-Girl” from Kick-Ass, who’s still only 14-years-old). It also features appearances from Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly) and hipster favorites Donald Glover (Community) and Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development).

Speaking to Rolling Stone last month, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino said Barrymore came up with a “really cool concept” for the video after the pair met after a gig in Los Angeles. As the video continues to gain attention, the group is headed back into the studio in coming weeks to work on their second album. Cosentino says, “”I’ve been working on trying to find a way to blend the classic pop stuff that I do with this new country thing that I’ve been exploring a lot. It’s not going to be a country record at all. I think a lot of people are getting scared when I say that.”
