Tracy Morgan’s Anti-Gay Jokes Could Fuel 30 Rock
Tracy Morgan has been busy apologizing to the gay and disabled communities for material in his act, but he may have to relive the whole situation in the new season of 30 Rock.
In an interview with Deadline, show creator and star Tina Fey expressed deep sympathy for Morgan as he handles the uproar over a bit where he said he would stab his hypothetical gay son. “I’m hoping that Tracy will have, and the world will have, forgotten about that [by the new season],” said Fey.
But when asked if Morgan’s troubles would become material for the show, she replied, “…if it happened to someone else, we would probably turn it into a Tracy story. So we may use it.”
The show frequently uses real-world events to inspire its plot lines, and bases the characters strongly on the actors portraying them. “Tracy Jordan,” like Tracy Morgan, had a rough childhood in Brooklyn, and has publicly battled diabetes. It was hilarious then, and it could be hilarious now.
