Using Xbox Kinect As A Tech-Savvy Tailor

It’s amazing that Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect is capable of recognizing which player is who and whether they’re a male or female. With this technology, there’s definitely room for significant expansion.

STYKU, an online apparel venture, is working on remote-measurement software using Xbox Kinect to work as a 3D body scanner. “In a matter of seconds, we can extract hundreds of measurements from a user, which can feed into our CAD system for custom patterns,” says the company’s CEO, Raj Sareen, one of the industry’s top apparel engineers.

The idea is extremely tangible and I can see how it would appeal to a fraction of the Xbox population. However, I don’t really see “gamers” getting themselves suited and booted or fashionable people purchasing a whole Xbox and Kinect system for this purpose. Great idea nonetheless.
