Rihanna Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of Her Summer 2012 Blockbuster Battleship

Rum pa pa pum, man down! This time around, when Rihanna shoots it won’t be in Grand Central Station in front of a big old crowd.

The 23-year-old Bajan beauty is getting rough and tough in Battleship, her first big movie role. Based on the classic Hasbro naval combat game, and directed by Peter Berg, Battleship “will unfold as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.” In the film, Rihanna sports fake tattoos up the wazoo and plays FBI espionage agent Petty Officer Raikes who works with the Navy to fight the “origins (aka: the alien race attacking Earth).”

“She’s this badass weapons officer; she knows everything about weapons, not only hers, but all the weapons on board,” said Rihanna. “It really got me into the emotion of the character. She’s a fighter. She’s a killer. She’s not afraid of anything. She likes a challenge because she can handle it. She doesn’t stand for anything. She’s really tough.”

The $200 million film, taped in Hawaii, also stars Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) as Naval officer Lt. Alex Hopper, who’s engaged to physical therapist Sam Shane (Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker). Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) plays Hopper’s older brother Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson. Liam Neeson stars as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane who is seriously unhappy to learn that his daughter and Hopper are engaged. In attempt to separate the two love birds, Admiral Shane sends Hopper to inspect a strange vessel in the water that transforms into an extraterrestrial machine.

Watch as Rihanna gives Entertainment Tonight a behind-the-scenes look at the making of her new summer blockbuster and check out the trailer with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Rihanna “cameo” below.

Excited to see Battleship when it opens in theaters on May 18, 2012?
