Kanye West Struts In Air Jordan 1 “Banned”
Kanye West is a bit of a style enigma. While it’s clear the guy is a tastemaker, he’s just as likely to be spotted in a mink, leather pants, and Louboutins as a white tee, ripped jeans, and sneakers. There are Web sites whose sole purpose is to report on his style, and his crew is oft seen following suit, whether or not that is in suits—Rosewood anyone? Personally, the simply stated, subtle Kanye is my personal champion of style, and while he may be wearing jeans and a white tee, he pulls it off with debonair, when he’s not crashing awards shows that is. Kanye was recently spotted sauntering the streets in a black and red pair of the Air Jordan 1. This particular AJ 1 possesses its own moniker, known in the community as the Air Jordan 1 “Banned.” The nomenclature is derived from the status this kick held with league officials when Nike first crafted it for their signature athlete, a fresh faced 23-year-old Michael Jordan. The kick violated the dual-color league-dress-code decree, and thus Michael was fined a thousand spankys every time he laced them up, a tab Nike was happy to pick up as earned marketing value. While NBA sneaker fashions have progressed to the avant-garde, the Air Jordan 1 “Banned” remains a classic, one that Kanye sports aptly.
