Apple May Wish, But The PC Ain’t Dead
You’ve probably heard the predictions. Steve Jobs himself declared at the unveiling of the iPad 2 the start of the “post-PC era.” But someone forgot to tell the PC.
According to a new report from Mintel, these non-tablet, non-smartphone computers are still going strong, with 82% of households owning at least one PC, and more than 50% owning more than one.
iPads and iPhones may be the sexiest products on the market right now, but the PC still reigns supreme for getting things done. Desktops and laptops still make up a whopping 93% of the global market. As the Mintel study shows, even image-conscious teenagers ditch their smartphone to do everything from homework to gaming.
However, the Mintel report notes that laptops now make up 80% of PC purchases. So while the PC may be going strong, the desktop computer could be looking for a renovation.
What do you think? Are you still using a PC, or have you ditched it for your tablet and smartphone?
