The 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards are taping tonight in Atlanta and in addition to the already strong line-up, we’re hearing whispers of some great musical surprises for the show.

With Mike Epps hosting the event once again, performances already announced include Rick Ross and his MMG stars Meek Mill and Wale, Big Sean, Roscoe Dash, Lupe Fiasco and Wiz Khalifa. Diddy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Malcolm Jamal-Warner and Wendy Raquel Robinson have been confirmed as some of the presenters and LL Cool J will be receiving the “I Am Hip Hop” Icon Award.

The buzz we’re hearing is Heavy D is the night’s biggest surprise act, with a set filled with some of his classics (“Is It Good To You”; “Nuttin’ But Love”). Another blast from the past, El DeBarge is rumored to be pairing up with Wale and Rick Ross on their current hit “That Way” (replacing original singer Jeremih) and as for many people’s favorite part of the night—the pre-recorded ciphers—acts like Eminem and his Shady Records crew, Rick Ross and MMG, French Montana, Tech N9ne, Estelle, newcomer Nitty Scott, MC and more are being given the chance to shine.

Watch the BET Hip Hop Awards 2011 when they air on Tuesday, October 11th at 8/7c.
