LaTavia Roberson Dishes On Her Destiny’s Child Days & Mathew Knowles

LaTavia Roberson is dishing on her Destiny’s Child days (she’s an original member), and is shedding light on Mathew Knowles‘ rumored tyrant Joe Jackson-like rule over the platinum selling girl group as they broke into the industry and achieved music superstardom. She told The Mirror:
“Mathew did not mince his words and it can be tough to take that kind of criticism when you are a little girl. We would try not to let it break us. But Kelly [Rowland] was the sensitive one, and sometimes she would go to her room and cry.”
As for what life was like for the group with Papa Knowles at the helm, LaTavia said:
“We worked really hard. It was rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. It would be the four of us and he was like a drill sergeant. When summertime came he would start a camp at his house in Houston.”
LaTavia admitted she and the rest of DC’s members even nicknamed Papa Knowles Joe Jackson because of how tight of a ship he ran:
“We used to call him Joe Jackson. It’s not like he beat us with his belt or anything, but he was very strict.”
She added:
“Beyoncé was the only one brave enough to stand up to him.”
It’s hard for me to feel sorry for them since had it not been for Papa Knowles, they wouldn’t have been in the position to be the international superstars that they are today (er, well at least in the case of Beyoncé and Kelly).
