Australia’s teen sensation Cody Simpson and his right-hand man Jake Thrupp have a “bromance” akin to two of their idols, Lil Wayne and Drake.

Simpson and Thrupp are teen magazine favorites Down Under, with numerous Tumblr accounts and fan sites dedicated to them. They also tweet constantly with hashtags like #OctobersVeryOwn and #OVO (Drake’s movement), YMCMB lyrics and cryptic messages (“Cash Money, Young Money, call it what you want”) that are either relaying smoke signals they’ve become affiliated with the team they adore or simply paying homage.

Simpson’s currently on tour around Australia supporting the release of his second EP, Coast 2 Coast. He was discovered singing covers on YouTube just like that other teen he’s constantly compared to, Justin Bieber. He was signed to Atlantic Records and has recently begun his ascent on U.S. charts, cracking the Mainstream Top 40 tally with the single “On My Mind.” After touring his home country and taking a brief trip over to Japan, 14-year-old Simpson will head to Los Angeles next to finish recording his full-length debut album, due for early next year.

Back in the day, two blond, surfer-looking kids covering a song like Weezy’s “Right Above It” (in the video below) would have almost certainly been in jest. Fast forward to 2011 and our culture has become so inclusive the duo here know it word for word, take style cues from Wayne (skinny jeans, Vans, etc) and pay tribute in their own way to his artistry. Check it out:
