Anna Wintour On Kanye West’s Clothing Line: “Ask Someone Else”
After not so positive reviews of the recent Paris debut of his clothing collection, Kanye West must be one unhappy fashion camper.
New York Times reporter Eric Wilson has compiled a story in today’s paper featuring interviews with Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and a number of big names in the world of style. True to form, none of them minced words when it came to their first impression of the women’s line.
Long Nguyen: “There are wishes, and there are realities … I feel bad, actually, that there wasn’t anything to grab on to. But you can’t just dump some fox fur on a runway and call it luxury.”
Carine Roitfeld: “I’m sure he knows what he did wrong and what he did right … He tried hard, and he wants to learn.”
Joe Zee: “If you get it all right on the first shot, where do you go from there?”
Anna Wintour: “Ask someone else.”
Yikes. ‘Ye’s decision to debut in Paris rather than Stateside at New York Fashion Week may contribute something to the critics’ lukewarm reception, considering the high caliber of brands that show there. His renown ego (the writer calls it an “utter lack of self-awareness”) may also be playing a role in his design direction and overall approach but whatever the case may be, we all should know better than to count Kanye out just yet.
