Lil Wayne Films Public Service Announcement
Fresh of his most nationwide tour, Lil Wayne has filmed a “public service announcement” inspired by the loss of Apple visionary Steve Jobs.
Weezy break down Jobs’s legacy (“I don’t know a person who hasn’t been influenced in some way by this man”) and touches on his premature death from cancer, saying his passing means there are many people out there who’ll never know and understand his groundbreaking work. Wayne then speaks on his own mortality, questioning what would happen if he “just skated off my roof and end it all.” He’s in reflective mode, questioning if “motherf*ckers will really remember me” for the icon that he is.
Weezy then speaks on the phenomena of “syrup” and how he’s an original drinker of it due to his upbringing in the South (“it’s part of the culture”) and how it angers him people are doing it just to be cool nowadays, with no real reason. But while he’s aware he’s being contradictory (he admits to experimenting with syrup in the beginning mainly because rap groups like UGK were promoting it) he’s adamant his “do as I say, not as I do” attitude is fair. Tattoos are next up, and he expresses his frustration in young people copying the enormous amount of tattoos he has. Again, Wayne contradicts himself by saying he got his belly tattoo because he wanted to be exactly like Tupac Shakur. But according to Wayne, he “does this, for real.” He lifts up his shirt, pulls down his pants and has a moment where he wants the world to see he’s tatted from top to bottom.
When he walks outside he shows us his Bugatti (worth $1.8 million) and has another moment, alluding to the fact he’s one rapper who doesn’t place his value on material things (his crack here—“I don’t call myself Bugatti Wayne”—could possibly be a friendly jab at Rick Ross’s Maybach Music. Time will tell). He then goes on a rant about his move into rock music and how (despite what some critics have said) it’s been a successful venture so far, lambasts rappers moving into the rock field (“You guys are messing it up now”), people copying his new skateboarding passion, how real his affiliation with the Blood gang is and much more.
Wayne gets a lot off his chest and makes a lot of big statements in this video, even going so far as to proclaim, “I’m making the world a better place.” Peep the video below and decide for yourself.

He’s not talking about Rick Ross..he’s talking about 50 Cent calling himself “Ferrari F-50″. Rick Ross is practically YMCMB…
I must ask, what does he intend to come from this? Scholars have declared creativity and originality to be dead for a long while, so I have to wonder if it’s pure arrogance or ignorance that guides his comments. His words make it seem as if he’s an innovator, when in fact he’s nothing so grand. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to sound like a hater, but he’s not the first rapper to dabble with rock (Run DMC, Public Enemy), the first rapper to embrace the action sports lifestyle (N.E.R.D.) or the first rapper to glorify tattoos (Tupac Shakur). There may be more before what I posted, but those were the ones off the top of my head that I know did these things before Lil Wayne. The hypocrisy is astounding, and it makes me wonder what the overall point of the video is.
This dude is a lame, he should never even mention his name in the same breath as Steven Jobs. Being an innovator is doing something that has never been done before which is what the Apple Icon did. Dwayne didn’t invent or create nothing if anything he is destroying real music! He got tattoos “Like” Pac, He drank the medicine “Like” UGK, The Rock music, RUNDMC been there done that. It’s one thing to say “I have” a Bugatti verses “I Created” a Bugatti, that’s when you are an innovator. The “Greatest Rapper Alive?!?!” Never! That’s a disrespect to Rakim, KRS-ONE, Jay, Nas, LL COOL J, Cube hell even Kool G Rap rappers that really rap about something or them dudes from the West coast would service him like RassKass, Chino XL, Aceyalone, etc… there is a long list or real emcee’s before Dwayne would even be considered. Cash Money got him in and paid, I meant paved the way, they should actually thank Master P for opening the doors to the south and Juvenile for really blowing them open for them.
This whole “I drank because it was a culture but don’t you do it!” is dumb, or the “I got the tattoos because I knew what I was getting and now everybody is doing it” is even more stupid. You wanted a tattoo like Pac and now people want tattoos like “U” it’s all recycled and Dwayne is a recycled product with a different face.

its interesting to see how lil wayne sees himself
Alex Reyes an innovater is someone who have made improvements to something thats already done. But you make a good point.
in the video the artist is not self praising himself as an innovator he’s merely exclaiming that” IF U DO SOMETHING, STAND UP BEHIND THE REASON U DO IT” cause if you did it, it must have been inspired somewhere or by someone. He profess to the tattoos and the rides simply to tell you that he did something he liked where he got the inspiration from others who done did it, like 2pac, UGK etc. please rewatch n please do a better perusing. If you cant cririque by being biased.
Thank you for the write up. I definitely agree with what you are saying.
I have been talking about this subject a lot
these days with my brother so hopefully this will get him to see my perspective.
Fingers crossed!
