New York Comic Con 2011 Wrap Up

This year’s New York Comic Con grew significantly from what it was last year. Large gaming vendors like Xbox, Nintendo, Activision, Capcom and Bandai made an appearance. Ford turned their booth into a car show featuring the Transformer “Bumblebee” Chevy Camaro. Marvel‘s The Avengers had a successful screening panel. There were live art shows and signings by major artists.
It’s a great convention for all who love art, comic books, anime, collectables and cosplay. Some people take these conventions to the extreme and have broke down their excursion to a science—knowing the exclusives, what to hit up first, on which day and time. It sounds ridiculous but from what I was told, after eBay sales, it can pay off the trip and some.
Like the previous conventions, this year’s cosplay was spread across the board from “eh” to awesome. As much as I’d like to bash the WTF’s, I commend them for being confident. I noticed that these “weirdos” are just like anyone else, they love attention. Having a surrounding crowd take your picture must make you feel like a Kim Kardashian or a real Superman.
Most of these artistic “nerds” and “geeks” are creative geniuses who fabricate their own costumes with attention to detail. Now that’s what sets cosplayers apart. Be a cool nerd and go balls to the wall.
