Movie Review: Texas Killing Fields
The scariest thing about crime films, especially those about serial killers, is when they’re based on a true story. Such is the case of Texas Killing Fields, a serial thriller based on the murders of dozens of women whose bodies were dumped in an oil field in League City, Texas.
Other than the inspiration, we’ve got some very familiar film conventions going on here. A couple of mismatched partners, ex-wife issues for one of the detectives, and a young witness who has to be thrust into the belly of the beast for the police to stand a chance of finding the killer (think Pookie from New Jack City).
The cast includes Sam Worthington (Avatar), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s Anatomy), Jessica Chastain (The Help), and Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass). Gruesome and morbid suspense, scenes and settings along with a very well-assembled cast should make this film worth a watch.
Unfortunately, some of these crimes have still not been solved, and the real life pair of detectives who worked on them hope that the film can end up inspiring people with information on them to come forward.
Texas Killing Fields is in select theaters now.
