Designer To The Stars LaQuan Smith Debuts “Eclipse” Collection
Gifted designer LaQuan Smith, 23, is back with his second collection and it’s causing a total eclipse of the heart.
Following his Spring 2011 “Hard Candy” collection, the Queens native’s latest Fall/Holiday 2012 line, “Eclipse,” on his LQS label shows off the designer’s unique ability to make clothes for the female form in a dazzling array of fashion forward styles. The avant garde looks range from an electric blue ruffle coat to an out-of-this-world gold foil dress. “New York is where I’m from and the fashion there is so diverse,” said LaQuan. “It’s always reinventing itself in ways that allow me to constantly keep creating. This collection is empowering and I think that women should always feel empowered in their clothing.”
LaQuan, who has created original pieces for Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Sessile Lopez, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez from a sewing machine he received as a Christmas gift when he was 13 years old, has always been obsessed with fashion. “My friends were all getting PlayStations and I wanted a machine and fabric,” says LaQuan. “I don’t think I chose fashion, fashion chose me.”
