Chat With Your Favorite Brands on Google+
Google made a splash earlier this year with the rollout of their latest product Google +, a proprietary social network set to compete with industry heavyweights such as Facebook and Twitter. Since its inception the search giant has built up a steady following for their social network, but they had been lacking one key piece: brand pages. From a user perspective, brands may not be paramount in your mind when you’re perusing social networks, but I can tell you from experience you are paramount in their minds. One of the main reasons social networking as an industry has become such a lucrative enterprise is because it affords brands the opportunity to talk, target, and market their customers directly with the precise messaging they want. Take a second to delve into mind that has been oversaturated with non-stop branding since birth and think of some of your favorite brands. If they’re worth their marketing budget, they’ve got profiles on Facebook and Twitter, and are now able to have brand pages on Google+.
Google has launched brand pages on their Google+ network with a few select partners such as The Muppets, WWE, and Barcelona Football Club. One key area in which Google+ differs and many industry pundits feel exceeds Facebook is in their hangout feature. Now brands on Google+ will be able to reward fans with “hangouts” or live chats with corporate big-wigs, and more enticingly, related talent. The Muppets took the plunge already offering fans the ability to live chat with characters from their upcoming movie. Now that the floodgates have opened it’s only a matter of time before your favorite brand will be available for engagement on Google+. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
