Missoni To Launch Lower-Priced Collection
Forget getting jiggy with it, thanks to Missoni this season is all about getting ziggy with it.
Following the success of their recessionista friendly Target collection that sold-out almost instantly and crashed Target’s Web site, the Italian high-end fashion house, known for their zigzag pattern, is launching two new lines: a budget-friendly collection possibly for Macy’s and a line for charity called M Missoni for OrphanAid Africa.
“We can’t waste too much time,” Margherita Missoni told the Los Angeles Times. ” “Maybe it’s a partnership with Macy’s in the U.S. and someone else in Europe. We have a lot of options because everyone is interested, but it has to be something that touches different categories…The fact that you can put a zigzag on anything was part of the success at Target. People who wouldn’t wear a top would have a glass or a blanket.”
Although the Missoni budget-line is still in development, a 12-piece capsule pink-and-red knitwear collection to benefit the orphaned children of Ghana is set to hit stores in Milan on November 10 and in New York on November 15. Yoox, the exclusive online retailer will launch the product on its site November 16.
“The choice of colors was instinctive; it was the combination that I liked the most,” Margherita told Women’s Wear Daily. “Pink is symbolic, it refers to childhood, and red to Africa, and together they were aesthetically pleasing. The pattern in itself is something that is ours, that belongs to us.”
