First Trailer For The Hunger Games Debuts!
The first trailer for The Hunger Games debuted on Good Morning America on Monday, and boy, it did not disappoint.
Fans are even wilder now over glimpses of Katniss and the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem. Anyone who was disappointed by the unbearable teasing of the last “trailer” is surely happy now, though the producers did leave one major taunt: They held back footage from inside the arena, of the Hunger Games themselves! But we can’t expect them to give away the best part, and a true showman leaves the audience wanting more.
The movie looks immaculately designed, from the lush, green nature of District 12, to a bizarrely but believably sleek Capitol. Shots of the city’s fashionable urban sprawl called to mind Speed Racer, but not seizure-inducing; or, more uncomfortably for author Suzanne Collins (who has faced criticisms of copying other stories about dystopian futures), I saw similarities between this Panem and the worlds of Running Man (where Arnold Schwarzenegger is chased to the death on a game show) and even Demolition Man.
Jennifer Lawrence looks amazing as Katniss, and many are hoping heartthrob Liam Hemsworth has some reason to take off his shirt in the movie. But what about that support cast? Was that Woody Harrelson in a blond wig? And Lenny Kravitz? I couldn’t figure out who was underneath all that makeup and pink clothing as Effie Trinket, and was surprised to learn it’s an unrecognizable Elizabeth Banks. Just the way she twirled her wrist sent chills up my spine.
What do you think? Are you begging for more Hunger Games, or cooling on the whole project?

nice in coming to it
