Is The Kindle Fire Already Cutting Demand For iPads?
Despite concerns that Amazon is losing money on their budget-priced tablet, recent studies show the Kindle Fire is already cutting into demand for the iPad 2, and is shaping up to be a monster seller this season.
A survey from research group RBC found that 5% of respondents hadpreordered a Kindle Fire (compared with 4% who had preordered iPad 2s in 2010), Forbes reports. Of those who had preordered, over a quarter were delaying purchasing an iPad.
One researcher tells CNET that preorders have already topped 500,000 online, not counting the devices set to be sold in over 16,000 retail locations. Another analyst predicts Amazon will sell “upwards of 4 million” units this quarter.
Apple is predicted to sell 12 to 13 million iPads in the same time.
What do you think? Have you preordered a Kindle Fire? Will it be the hot new tablet?
