Jennifer Hudson Credits Fiancé, David Otunga, For Saving Her Life
In October 2008, Jennifer Hudson’s mother, nephew and older brother were brutally murdered by the estranged husband of the American Idol alum’s sister, Julia. In the years since, Jennifer hasn’t talked much about the tragic loss, but in a recent interview for the December/January issue of EBONY, the Oscar award-winning actress credits her fiancé, David Otunga, for saving her life that day. He insisted she come to see him in Florida, where he was working with the World Wrestling Entertainment franchise, instead of returning home to Chicago. She told the magazine:
“That’s one of the things that saved my life, because I could have been home with my mom then. [Otunga] wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago.”
“I flew out to see him; that’s why I’m still here. I’ve never said that before, and I can’t believe I just said that now. But I didn’t know. He was just like, ‘I’m going to this wrestling thing, and it’s in Tampa. I’m going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.’ ”
Jennifer went on to describe the experience as “a blur” and “surreal.” So sad…I wonder if you’re ever really able to fully recover from such a huge loss.
