The latest film in the amazingly successful vampire franchise (Full Title: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1) debuted this past week to mixed reviews. Well, they’re not exactly mixed, so much as they disagree on whether bland acting and laughable dialogue is cheesy awesomeness or awesomely bad.

Dana Stevens at Slate calls it “a terrible movie, with stilted dialogue and leaden pacing”. Carrie Rickey at the Philadelphia Enquirer sort of agress, saying she snickered “at dialogue so wheezy it should come with an inhaler”, but still enjoyed the movie “immensely”. Mahnola Dargis at the New York Times calls it “the best” of the Twilight movies, despite an “impossible and ridiculously appealing… love story”.

Peter Travers at Rolling Stone must have been watching a different film: he says Breaking Dawn: Part 1 is “sexless, bloodless, padded and plodding… the worst Twilight movie to date.”
