The Ultimate Xmas Gift: NBA Season Starts On Dec. 25th
The announcement that the NBA season would be back after 149 days of being locked out had every basketball fan jumping for joy. But what made the deal even sweeter is that the season would begin on Christmas Day with a tripleheader featuring a rematch of the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat — which will see Dirk and Co. receive their championship rings before the tip. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, Kobe and the Lakers take on the Chicago Bulls and reigning MVP Derrick Rose. Not good enough? Okay, how about the good ol’ New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics? Yeah, one of those games will most definitely quench your thirst for basketball. Purposefully or not, a 66-game NBA season that kicks off on Christmas will almost make us forget how we nearly had an entire season of basketball ripped away from us. Oh, what were we going to do after the Super Bowl and before baseball season? Probably weep. But alas, cooler heads prevailed and basketball is back.
So what can we expect this season? Well, it will certainly be interesting to see how this frantic spell of free agent wheeling and dealing will take place from December 9th – December 25th. Guys like Jamal Crawford, Glen Davis, Caron Butler, Tyson Chandler, Nene, Tayshaun Prince, Shannon Brown, Kris Humphries, David West, Jason Richardson, Andrei Kirilenko and Josh Howard may be buying real estate in new locations between now and Christmas Day. Rookies won’t have much time to gel with their new teams. There will be several back-to-back-to-back nights this season where teams will struggle to remain fresh. It’s going to be interesting to watch everyone scramble to get it together. But who cares, we have a season.
That’s all that really matters, right?
