Broadway State Of Mind: Alicia Keys Presents ‘Stick Fly’
One hand in the air for the big city! Alicia Keys is returning to her hometown, New York City, to produce and compose the musical score for the upcoming Broadway play, Stick Fly.
The 14-time Grammy winner joins Director Kenny Leon to bring playwright Lydia R. Diamond‘s story to life. Stick Fly follows the wealthy Black LeVay family, who travels to Martha’s Vineyard for a relaxing weekend at their “elegant summer home.” But things get complicated when the two adult sons bring their love interests (one a fiancée, the other a new girlfriend) to meet their parents for their first time. As secrets are unpacked, everyone realizes very quickly that “when it comes to family, you’re stuck.”
“As someone who walked up and down this boulevard as a young girl, I cannot describe the thrill of having the opportunity of composing songs for a Broadway show,” Keys said in a statement. “It’s honestly been a dream come true. I love the humor and humanity of Stick Fly, and I’m so excited to be a part of the emotional journey this show will take audiences on.”
Stick Fly begins at the Cort Theater today and includes appearances from Mekhi Phifer, Condola Rashad, Tracie Thoms, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Rosie Benton and Dule Hill. Listen to Alicia talk more about Stick Fly below and get your tickets here.
