Gmail For iPhone Debuts After False Start
Google unveiled their Gmail app for iOS recently, after an earlier version was pulled almost immediately.
The first Gmail app contained a bug regarding notifications; but several reviewers also complained that the interface did little to improve on Gmail’s mobile site.
Jill Duffy at PC Magazine praises the new app’s “speed, better search functions, and color-coded threading,” but says that users requiring a “readable” font size should stick with the iPhone’s built-in Mail function.
For me, it’s a no-brainer: the dedicated Gmail app offers much better functionality than the built-in Mail app, including a much easier way to “star” and select emails for further action. And compared to Gmail Mobile, the dedicated app is indeed much faster. Plus, now that the push notifications bug is worked out, users can be alerted to new emails almost as soon as they come in.
Have you used the new app? What do you think?
