Down to earth, raw and ready to take his music to the masses, Don Trip isn’t playing games. During a recent performance of his breakout hit “Letter To My Son” at a showcase in New York City, the rapper (who shares the same government name of the late, great Notorious BIG, Christopher Wallace) broke down in tears, visibly still suffering from the song’s subject matter (the ongoing battle between him and his son’s mother).

For his anticipated debut album Help Is On The Way coming early next year, the Memphis native has been in the studio with top-notch producers like Boi 1-Da, Renegades, T-Minus and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. He shows off his freestyle skills below for our video series “Minute To The Top,” where artists perform a themed freestyle in an elevator from the ground floor to the DrJays.com offices at the top—signifying their journey from nothing to something.
