Timbaland Confesses His Feelings For Aaliyah: “I Was In Love With Her…”

Timbaland will be the subject of an upcoming episode of E!’s True Hollywood Story, and it’s a must-see!! One of the surprising confessions the hip-hop super producer makes during the show concerns how he felt about Aaliyah when he first met her. “When I first met Aaliyah — it’s time for the world to hear this, I’m gonna give a little secret — I was in love with her,” he admitted. “I said, But I’m not…She just a baby, I’m old. I said to myself, ‘I’m just gonna be her brother.’ Oh man, I was fightin’, I was fightin’ a lot — a big war. But I loved Aaliyah.”
Timbaland’s history with the late R&B princess is well known – the duo were good friends as well as musical collaborators. In 1996 he made his mainstream breakthrough by producing the majority of her sophomore album One in a Million, including the hit single, “If Your Girl Only Knew.” He also contributed three songs, all eventually released as singles, to Aaliyah’s self-titled third album, which was released after she died in a plane crash in 2001.
But Timbaland’s admission about his feelings for Aaliyah aren’t the only startling revelation that we’ll hear during the show. The Virginia native also admits to going through a suicidal depression after gaining a major amount of weight some years back. “I was almost 400 pounds. Who wants to be a 400-pound black man? I’m looking in the mirror, my breast is bigger than a girl breast,” he said. “And I was saying, ‘That ain’t cool.’ So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed.”
