Was Kim Kardashian’s Recent “Mission” Trip To Haiti A Publicity Stunt?

Kim Kardashian has gone from one PR nightmare to another. The reality TV starlet’s recent “mission” trip to Haiti, which is still recovering from the 2010 earthquake that killed thousands of people, has blown up in her face amid allegations that it was one big publicity stunt to rehabilitate her fragile image. During her Haitian adventure, Kim reportedly avoided the refugee camps that house the nearly 600,000 people who are still suffering from the after-effects of the earthquake, and “stayed in a $1,000-a-night hotel suite, traveled in a royalty-worthy convoy with her own photographers and bodyguards, and strutted down the runway in a fashion show.” A source told The National Enquirer:

“The whole trip was a sham. It’s like Kim turned a blind eye to Haiti’s real issues – poverty and hunger. All she did was rub shoulders with the nation’s elite. She showed no interest in the plight of our people. It was a scandalous waste of time and money.”

Reportedly, the pricey duds that she and her mom Kris Jenner donned during the trip were a slap in the face to the thousands of people who are suffering in Haiti. Port-au-Prince television producer Steve Azor told The Enquirer:

“The clothes on their backs could feed a Haitian family for years. This visit was not about helping Haiti’s poor people – it was about helping Kim Kardashian revamp her image.”

In response to The National Enquirer‘s story, Kim took to her official website to call the allegations “malicious” and “untrue”, saying, “While my experience was completely life-changing… a very emotional and surprisingly positive journey that I will never forget, some media outlets have tried to tarnish the motive behind my visit and have written completely ridiculous and untrue things.”

I want to feel sympathetic for Kim, but considering the Kardashian’s history of planting stories and setting up photo ops to help improve their images, I can’t do anything but shake my head. If she really wants anyone to believe that her motives for going to Haiti were genuine, she’s going to need more people.
