Bill Maher Vs. Tim Tebow, Christians Vs. HBO

It may not be the first time Bill Maher has raised the ire of the Christian right but since messing with their newly anointed golden child Tim Tebow, the talk show host is definitely feeling their wrath.

The story goes that after Tebow’s Denver Broncos were defeated by the Buffalo Bills on Christmas Eve, Maher sent out the following highly offensive (and humorous to some) tweet: “Wow, Jesus just f—-d Tim Tebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler, “Hey, Buffalo’s killing them.”

That was all it took for conservative Christians to take to their social networks and demand Maher and his popular HBO show, Real Time With Bill Maher, be removed instantly from the network. For example, Fox News’ Eric Bolling was quick with his response (“Bill Maher is disgusting vile trash. I can’t even repeat what he just tweeted about Tebow on Christmas Eve. #straighttohellBill”) while regular Twitter users sent out dispatches such as, “Bill Maher should be banned. Decency is not in his vocabulary. Disgusting taster for words, as usual.”

Tebow is yet to respond himself to Maher’s tweet; instead he tweeted after the game, “Tough game today but what’s most important is being able to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas everyone GB2.” The footballer, famous for getting down on his knee to pray on field during a game, has become the poster child for evangelical Christians.
