Meet A Man Who Owns More Than 100 Pairs Of Allen Iverson Sneakers

I’m always fascinated by these stories. Sneakerheads who spend their entire lives devoted to trying to collect one particular type of sneaker. A few weeks ago, we told you about a man from Detroit who has 727 pairs of Air Jordans in his basement. Freakin’ incredible how much time, effort, and money dude has put into building his collection because of the passion he has for Jordans.

Not to discredit him or anything, but I do have to point out that just about everyone loves Jordans. And if you’re really determined, putting together a large Air Jordan collection isn’t impossible. Even Jordans that are super rare aren’t necessarily impossible to find. Sure, they’ll cost you some major coin, but they’re out there somewhere just waiting for you to snatch them up. Which is what makes what Kentucky native Dustin Bowers has done pretty damn impressive. He’s put together a collection of 110 different pairs of Allen Iverson sneakers—a sneaker that doesn’t always get the respect (or the retro re-releases!) that it deserves. From official releases and limited-edition joints to autographed kicks and even game-worn sneaks, Bowers has a little bit of everything. And Sneaker Freaker caught up with him recently to talk about his obsession with AI’s sneakers. Some of the highlights of the interview:

On why he prefers AIs over Air Jordans: “I just wanted to be different. I didn’t want to wear what everyone else was wearing. I wanted to stand out.”

On the quality of Reebok sneakers: “I think the Reebok Iverson line is right up there with Air Jordans. I’m not much of a fan of the Kobe or LeBron lines. I think the quality of the Reeboks is better than the Jordans, too.”

On his favorite AI sneaker: “It’s kinda hard to pick a favorite. I like all the Iversons the same. The Answer 4s were the first shoe I fell in love with, that’s what started it all for me, so I guess it’d be the Answer 4s.”

It’s an interesting interview, to say the least. And it’s kinda cool to see someone giving AI some shine for his sneaker line. He had a really nice run during his time in the NBA and he’s got some classic kicks of his own. And it’s good to see that someone out there put down their Air Jordans long enough to realize that.
