Are The Boston Celtics Going To Be The Most Disappointing Team In The NBA This Season?
0-3. Less than a week into the 2011-12 NBA season, that’s where the Boston Celtics stand. Right there at the bottom of the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. And that, my friends, is exactly where they belong.
For the last few years, the Celtics have been one of the most consistent teams in the NBA. Although they haven’t won multiple NBA titles, they have always been competitive since bringing Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to Beantown to team up with Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo. They play hard. They play pretty good defense. And they play to win. You always know your team is in for a battle when they tip off against the Celtics.
But, this year? Well, this year already feels different. The Celtics have gotten real old, real fast and it’s looking like it’s going to be a looooooong season for them. Without Pierce in the lineup, they’ve lost to the New York Knicks, the Miami Heat, and the New Orleans Hornets. And before you say, ‘Well, the Knicks and Heat are pretty good, so….,’ consider this: They lost the worst to the hapless Hornets on Wednesday night. Even though they didn’t have Eric Gordon in the lineup, the Hornets beat the Celts by 19. Yikes.
If the Celtics have any chance of turning their season around, they need to reevaluate their team ASAP and make some key changes to their lineup. They can’t just sit around and wait for Pierce to come back and save them. Their defense has been, in a word, terrible so far this season. That needs to get cleaned up. If guys aren’t willing to play D, they shouldn’t be playing. If they can’t rebound, same deal. They also clearly need to spend more time practicing as a team on the offensive side of things. The Celtics have looked inept on offense at times and don’t seem to be running the same plays collectively. That needs to change.
Basically, this year’s shortened season is going to force a lot of teams to do things differently. And that has to start today for the Celtics. If they were playing an 82-game season like usual, an 0-3 start wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. But because the NBA season will have just 66 games this year, 0-3 means the Celtics needs to turn things around now. It also means that things aren’t going to get any easier for Boston. The road trips will get tougher. The back-to-backs will get harder to play. And teams will continue to come right at them, unfazed by all of the talent that they’ve got on their team.
I know we’re only five days into the NBA season, but Boston needs to get its’ act together. Because so far, they’re the most disappointing team in the league. And that’s really saying something when you’ve got teams like the New Jersey Nets and Washington Wizards out there. Time to step it up, fellas.

What is wrong with you? The Celtics belong at the bottom of their division? You either don’t know anything about the Celtics or are a hater. The Celtics didn’t have Pierce in the first three games and there wasn’t any good chemistry between the whole new bench. This article is garbage.
.I would have to agree with Anonymo,/buse, what is wrong with you? You must be a Los Angeles fan, if that was the team we were talking about I might have to agree with you.
Almost the entire bench is new and needs to learn Doc’s system. Also, there was some terrible officiating in the game against the HEAT, The Celtics only lost by a couple against the Knicks as well as the Heat, this was without Pierce.
We also have Rajon Rondo who undoubtedly, is playing better than ever, seems he has been doing some work on that jumper of his.
Rondo put up 31 points, had 5 steals, 5 rebounds and 13 assists.
The Celtics WILL make the playoffs, of course. That is all they need to do. There will be a lot of talk about lost games but as we all know Doc is not going to just run his starting 5 into the ground, they will be taking nights off, there will be games lost to lackluster teams.
Also, in two weeks we will have a replacement for Jeff Green via Mickael Pietrus.
And in regards to your comments about being on the bottom of their division?! There have been only three games played so far. Relax.
Happy New Year!!!
