Batman, Avengers, and Twilight, Oh My: The Most Anticipated Movies Of 2012
While most people are looking back on the best of 2011, we at Dr. Jay’s are looking towards the future. In 2012, the Twilight movie franchise and latest Batman incarnation are both set to come to an end, just as new Spiderman, Hobbit, and The Hunger Games series take off. There might even be a few non-franchise movies! Here’s a partial list of the most buzzed-about projects in the upcoming year.
The Dark Knight Rises– For months now, even shaky bootlegs of 30-second clips have been enough to send seismic waves across the internet. After Christopher Nolan‘s critical and commercial smash hit The Dark Knight redefined the superhero genre, many are wondering where the franchise has to go. But the recently released trailer suggests Nolan is pushing even further in his stunning visuals and ambitious social commentary. Soon, all questions will be answered (except the ones Nolan leaves hanging, Inception-style): Will Batman be broken for good? Will we be able to understand Bane? Will Joseph Gordon-Levitt turn out to be the Riddler? (No.)
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 2– Despite the fact that the preceding movies have been widely panned, Twilight still has to pull into the station. Regardless, hordes of screaming (hopefully non-epileptic) fans will turn out to watch Edward, Bella, and baby Reneesme (SPOLIER ALERT) live happily ever after.
The Avengers– As Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Captain America, and Thor were all basically extended trailers, this one has had a lot of build up. Can Marvel make the movie anything more than a chaotic mashup?
Django Unchained– I can’t believe I have to wait almost a whole year for Quentin Tarantino’s latest! The cast of the escaped-slave-revenge pic currently includes Jamie Foxx (as Django), Kurt Russel, Leonardo Dicaprio, Sasha Baron Cohen, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kerry Washington, Don Johnson, Anthony LaPaglia, Tom Wopat, the RZA, and, I dunno, let’s say Donald Glover and Abe Vigoda are rumored, just for shits and giggles.
