Louis Vuitton Sues The Hangover 2 For Using Fake Designer Luggage
The Hangover 2 is drunk with lawsuits.
After facing litigation from tattoo artist Victor Whitmill, who tried to halt the release of the film claiming copyright infringement over the Mike Tyson-inspired tattoo on Ed Helms‘ character, The Hangover 2 is once again being hit with a lawsuit.
French fashion house Louis Vuitton has slapped Warner Bros, the film studio that produced The Hangover 2, with a lawsuit for “trademark dilution, false designation of origin and unfair competition” based on the scene when Zach Galifianakis character struts through an airport with bags that look like Louis Vuitton but aren’t. In the scene Galifinakis jokes, “Careful, that is.. that is a Lewis Vuitton.”
Turns out the bags were not real Louis Vuitton and the film used faked bags made by Diophy, a company which makes knockoff luxury bags. For the airport scene, Louis Vuitton is seeking a cut of the $581m that box-office hit took in globally in damages.
