Russell Brand Files For Divorce From Katy Perry
According to insiders it was a “mutual decision” but Russell Brand has jumped the gun and filed divorce papers with his wife of just over a year, Katy Perry.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Brand said in a statement released to The Associated Press today. “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”
Brand, 36, offered no other details, but in papers filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the British comedian cited the oft-used “irreconcilable differences” excuse.
A whirlwind romance that played out in public (the couple often sent sweet messages to each other via Twitter and were very vocal about their admiration for each other to the press) Brand and Perry announced their engagement in January 2010 after meeting at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards where hosted and she performed. Both are yet to send out any tweets today regarding the split.
