2012: The Year of Punk’d… Again?
Ok, so we all remember the good ol’ days toward the beginning of the new millennium when MTV still aired music videos had an iconic program entitled simply, Punk’d.
Hosted and masterminded by Hollywood playboy regardless of marital status Ashton Kutcher, the show chronicles the set-ups and executions of elaborate pranks, practical jokes, and stunts on unsuspecting but very popular celebrities. From Salma Hayek to Shaquille O’Neal, everyone who was anyone during the years of 2003 – 2007 was “punk’d.”
Five years later, the series is back! Ashton will still serve as executive producer of the show. However, he will not be hosting this time and will stay behind the scenes. Instead, each prank will feature a celebrity host who chooses to punk one of their celebrity friends.
Sounds good, but everyone isn’t as wild, crazy, or charismatic as Ashton was as a host. Still, it’ll be good to see some of that same unpredictable energy from what may have been the last of the dominant years of MTV.
The first show is said to feature ubiquitous teenage phenom Justin Bieber punking “America’s Sweetheart” Taylor Swift. Can the show keep its edge with such celebrity pairings? More importantly, will anybody’s reaction ever come close to the infamous opening prank of a teary-eyed Justin Timberlake?
Get More: Punk’d
See for yourself when a sneak preview is aired during MTV’s New Year’s Eve party, which will begin to air on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 11 pm EST.
