Katy Perry Feared Upsetting Her Religious Parents With Divorce
It’s no secret that Katy Perry comes from a very religious family (both of her parents are preachers). But although she went from a Christian upbringing and singing gospel music to singing about a kissing a girl and liking it, Katy still fears upsetting her parents with her life choices. Reportedly, that fear led to the pop star asking her soon-to-be ex-husband Russell Brand to file the documents to officially end their marriage, which has been in bad shape for months. According to TMZ:
“We’re told both Katy and Russell were on board with the divorce a few weeks ago — but they didn’t want to be in town when the papers were filed … so he went back to England and she booked it to Hawaii.
Since Katy’s parents are evangelical Christians, we’re told she didn’t want to be the one to ‘officially’ end the marriage by filing the docs … since she was raised to believe divorce is wrong.”
As we previously told you, Russell filed for divorce from Katy a few days ago after a little over a year of marriage. The docs blame “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce.
