Girl Scouts Introduce New Cookie: Savannah Smiles

Submitted by on January 7, 2012 – 9:36 am2 Comments

Nature has a way of restoring balance; and in response to the post-holiday blues and the bitter cold of winter, the Universe gives us the warm glow of Girl Scout cookie season. This year marks the organization’s 100th anniversary, and their new cookie, the Savannah Smile, is an ode to the organization’s beginnings.

Savannah, GA was the hometown of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the GSUSA, and it was there that she held the first meeting with 18 girls in 1912. In her honor, Little Brownie Bakers has created a lemon wedge cookie in a half-moon shape, dusted in sugar.

But will it join the hallowed ranks of Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos, and the venerable, untouchable Thin Mint? Maybe so, but those are high standards of lasting admiration. Thin Mints alone still account for 25% of all Girl Scout cookie sales, according to ABC News.

Other centennial events include a commemorative coin, a sing-along in Washington D.C., and new (quite timely) merit badges in financial literacy. And just last week, the Girl Scouts participated in the famous Rose Bowl parade in Pasadena, CA

What’s your favorite girl scout cookie? Have you tried the Savannah Smile?
