Tim Tebow Reportedly Collected A $250,000 Bonus For Beating The Pittsburgh Steelers
Things are going great for Tim Tebow right now, huh?
On Sunday afternoon, he led the Denver Broncos to a huge upset over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. In the process, he managed to set the sports tweets per second record by causing 9420 tweets to be sent out every second during the Broncos miraculous overtime win. And things got even better for Tebow on Monday when ESPN reporter Adam Schefter revealed that thanks to a clause in Tebow’s contract, he’s set to receive a $250,000 bonus as a result of his win on Sunday. That’s right—$250,000 extra bucks in his pocket. No wonder he looked so happy after throwing his winning touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas!
As part of the contract that Tebow signed in 2010 after being drafted in the first round by the Broncos, Tebow has an escalator of $250,000 for each playoff victory that he earns this year, provided he took at least 70 percent of the snaps for the Broncos during the regular season. After Kyle Orton started the year for Denver and played with the team through four games, Tebow assumed the starting role and played in 73 percent of the Broncos games, which makes him eligible for the bonus. Therefore, the Broncos now owe him an extra $250,000 for this season. He also stands to make an additional $250,000 if the Broncos can beat the New England Patriots on Saturday night, another $250,000 if they win in the AFC Championship Game, and…well, let’s just say if he manages to make it to that point, he’ll have a lot more at stake then just a contract bonus. But, I digress.
The journey of Tim Tebow has been nothing short of miraculous. Once thought to be a first-round bust, he’s come through in the clutch time and time—and time!—again for the Broncos this season. And it’s good to see him getting paid for doing it. But, seriously: Can things possibly get any better for this guy right now? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens this weekend. In the meantime, can we borrow a dollar, Tim? We hear you can spare it…
