A New App Will Let You Unlock Your iPhone With Facial Recognition
Now, this is cool. It’s obviously very important to lock your smart phone. If you’re not doing it now, start doing it ASAP. Five years ago, all a thief might be able to get off your phone was your home number and the digits that you grabbed off some random girl at the bar one Saturday night last summer. Now? A thief can access your email, tap into your personal accounts, and even unveil your top-secret passwords if he or she gets their hands on your phone. So it’s essential that you put some type of lock on it.
However, that’s easier said than done. If you’re the type of person who’s constantly on and off the phone, locking it can be a real hassle. It’s simple enough to remember a code, PIN, or pattern to access the phone. But who wants to punch it in every time they want to use their phone? Fortunately, a developer named Robert Neagu has come up with a solution. He’s created an app called FaceUnlock that allows you to use your smart phone’s camera to capture a photo of your face. Using facial recognition, it then allows you to unlock your phone without using a code. All you need to do is show your face to your phone, let it scan you, and you’re in! And if for whatever reason you have trouble scanning your face or you’re in low light, you can also resort to a backup code or pin.
As of right now, FaceUnlock is only available on the Android-powered Galaxy Nexus. However, it’ll be coming to the App Store very soon—probably within the next few weeks—so that you can use it on your Apple iPhone 4 or Apple iPhone 4S. This is some real Jetsons type of stuff, folks. So make sure you get your hands on the app as soon as it comes out. And, please: Lock your phones! With this app, you have no reason not to.
