Lionel Messi Gets His Own Gold adidas AdiZero F50 “Ballon D’Or” Cleat
Lionel Messi is, in a word, unstoppable. Late last week, the FC Barcelona forward was awarded the Ballon D’or award by FIFA—honoring him as the Player of the Year in international soccer—for the third straight year. At this point in his career, he’s basically on a very Michael Jordan-esque path, for those who don’t follow soccer. The guy is head and shoulders above everybody else talent-wise. And, on the soccer field, he is, quite simply, unstoppable.
It appears he’s unstoppable off of the field, too. At least when it comes to the sneaker game. In honor of him winning the Ballon D’Or, adidas went ahead and crafted him a special cleat to honor his accomplishment. And, as you might expect, it’s gold. That’s right. It’s a special gold makeup of the adidas AdiZero F50 soccer cleat that he wears regularly. It was created using a SPRINTSKIN single-layer synthetic upper, an internal SPRINTWEB that provides for great stability, and a special compartment that allows for those who wear it to use the adidas miCoach technology. To make it extra special, adidas also included the three years that Messi won the Ballon D’or, Messi’s personal logo, and an Argentina flag on the heel to pay homage to his native country.
Not bad, right? Not bad at all. We commend Messi for winning the Ballon D’Or again. And we also commend adidas for having the presence of mind to release a special cleat for him so quickly. These might not mean much to the average sneakerhead. But if you’re a soccer fan and you’ve followed Messi’s career, then these are definitely a must-have. Or, maybe you should just wait for next year when he wins the Ballon D’Or again? Ha. We’re kidding…er, sort of. This guy really is unstoppable right now—and we don’t see anyone out there stopping him anytime soon.
