Kobe Bryant is the leader of the Los Angeles Lakers, a top-five player in the NBA, and—as much as we hate to admit it sometimes—one of the greatest professional athletes of all-time. Apparently, he’s also a motivational speaker and the reason that so many other important people have been successful. At least, that’s what he wants us to think in his new Nike commercial.

The commercial—which features Kobe’s Nike Zoom Kobe VII—is for the “Kobe System” and just started airing late last week. It features Kobe rising up from beneath a stage and standing in front of a large group of famous people, including Sir Richard Branson, Kanye West, Jerry Rice, Aziz Ansari, Paul Rodriguez, Serena Williams, Tony Robbins, and more. “You’re at the top of your game,” he tells his audience, before pointing out some of their accomplishments. “You’ve got prestigious awards. You’re a Chinese mega-star. You own outer space. You get here by accident. [Ed. note: Ha! Kobe's shots at Ansari are awesome.] But, where do you go when you’re at the top? You go over the top.”

Kobe then goes on to explain that the “Kobe System” is why so many of them are successful—before the camera pans down to show each and every one of them wearing a pair of the Nike Zoom Kobe VIIs. Kanye, of all people, then interrupts Kobe to ask a question. “What if you are really successful?” To which Kobe replies: “You’re welcome.”

Does the commercial make us like the Kobe VII anymore than we did when we first saw it? Eh, not really. Sorry, Kob’. We’re still a little gun-shy when it comes to balling in low-tops. But, we will admit that this commercial is really funny. And we appreciate that Kobe can still have a little bit of fun in his old age. Ha! We kid, we kid. But, seriously: Well done.
